Steel
Melting Shop
All steels are melted
and refined in the SMS equipped with EAF-LRF-VD/VOD and cast in Ingot
Moulds and CC Bloom Casters.
|
Electric
Arc Furnace: RMGL
has a 35 MT capacity Ultra High Power, Eccentric Bottom Tapping
Arc Furnace for
melting steel from select raw materials viz. Scrap, DRI, Pig Iron,
etc.
Secondary
Refining Facilities
Ladle Refining
Furnace (LRF)has
been provided for maintaining narrow tolerance of Carbon, Manganese
and other alloying elements
|
 |
|
Argon purging
done in LRF eliminates macro inclusions. Close Stream casting is
done (without steel coming in contact with air) to have steel with
minimum gas levels.
|
| Vacuum
Degassing (VD) has been provided to further reduce the hydrogen
and other gas levels in steel to meet all critical specifications.
Vacuum Oxygen
Decarburisation (VOD) Vessel has been provided to achieve low
carbon levels in stainless steels.

Casting
Facilities
Uphill bottom pouring
in wide end up Ingot Moulds with liquid stream shrouding (without
steel coming in contact with air) to ensure minimum gas levels, maximum
cleanliness and high reduction ratios.
A twin strand INDOMAG
Continuous Bloom Casting Machine with a 10.5 mtr / 21 mtr radius
equipped with
- Electro
Magnetic Stirrer in bloom caster generates a whirlpool
motion of liquid metal during solidification in copper mould.
After chill zone, formation of columnar Zone is avoided and equiaxed
grain formation takes place.
- Automatic
Mould Level Controller has been provided to keep constant
head and constant speed of casting, working in tandem, this gives
a Central shrinkage free casting.
- Secondary
cooling apron has been provided with air-water cloud spray,
which results into atomization of water particles. The heat removal
from cast bloom is accelerated and cast blooms produced are free
from banded structure
The cast steel
is then hot rolled giving specified/required reduction ratio to form
steel of high quality suitable for critical applications. |
