Remi
Metals Gujarat Limited (RMGL) is an Electric Arc Furnace based integrated
steel and seamless pipe plant. RMGL has both Ingot (minimum weight 3T)
as well as CC Bloom ( maximum bloom size 300 mm sq.) casting routes of
steel making.
Capacities
RMGL has a Seamless Pipe / Tubes plant to maufacture 50,000 TPA of Carbon
Alloy Steel Seamless Pipes / Tubesin hte size range of 1'' to 6 5/8''
in technical collaboration with M/s Intertech GmbH International Technical
Assistance, (INTERTECH), Germany. The Company has also in-house Steel
manufacturing and rolling capacity of 1,40,000 TPA.
Land
and Location
RMGL is located in Gujarat on a 150 acres (60 hectares) plot near villageFulwadi,
Taluka Jhagadia, District Bharuch which is 23 kms from Ankleshwar, 85
kms from Dahej where a full fledged all weather port is being developed
and 85 kms from Essar's Sponge Iron Plant and Hazira.
Power
supply is from Jhagadia sub-station by aying a separate Industrial feeder.
The project is ideally located as regards proximity to the source of raw
materials, water, power, ptransport arrangements and other amenities.
Also a gas line is passing just near the project site, from which gas
connection wcould be obtained in future, subject to availability of gas.
Manufacturing
Facilities
Mannesman
Demag Huttentechnik, Germany and their Indian counterparts Indomag
Steel Technology, world leaders in steel making and seamless pipe
technology have designed the key process equipments. Advance steel making
technology through 35 MT, Ultra High Power Eccentric Bottom Tapping Arc
Furnace, Refining in LRF (Landle Refining Furnace) and Degassing in VD/VOD
has been inducted from MDH.
The Rolling Mill also designed and manufactured by Mannesmann Demag can
provide high reduction ratios in single heating.
RMGL
Steel Plant is equipped with ultra high power furnace with eccentric bottom
tapping for slag free liquid steel with secondary refining in ladle furnace
(LF) vacuum degassing (VD), which is then cast in Bottom poured, wide
end up ingot moulds or a continuous (CC) bloom caster with Electro Magnetic
Stirrer (EMS) and Automatic Mould Level Controller (AMLC). This results
in compact, clean defect free steel. The Cast steel is then hot rolled
giving high reduction ratio to form steel of high quality suitable for
critical applications.
The
highlights of our steel mill are as follows:

Uphill bottom pouring in wide end up Ingot Moulds with liquid stream
shrouding (without steel coming in contact wiht air) to ensure minimum
gas levels, maximum cleanliness and high reduction ratios.
- Electro
Magnetic Stirrer in bloom caster generates a whirlpool motion of liquid
metal during solidification in copper mould. After chill zone, formation
of columnar Zone is avoided and equiaxed grain formation takes place.
This minimizes dendritic structure which is the bane of any Steel intended
for forging.
- Autmatic
Mould Level Controller has been provided to keep constant head and constant
speed of casting, working in tandem, this gives a Central shrinkage
free casting.
- Secondary
cooling apron has been provided with air-water cloud spray, which results
into automization of water particles. The heat removal from the cast
bloom is accelerated and cast blooms produced are free from banded structure.
- LRF
has been provided for maintaining narrow tollerance of Carbon, Manganese
and other alloying elements. Argon purging done in LRF eliminates macro
inclusions. Close Stream casting is done (without steel coming in contact
with air) to have steel wiht minimum gas levels.
- For
special grades of steel, pit cooling arrangement and annealing furnace
has also been provided.

We
undertake to develop and produce more Alloy Steels and Micro Alloy Steels
alongwith Carbon Steels to cater to steel requirements for critical components
like Front Axle Beams, Bearings, Steering Gearsm Crank Shafts, Gears,
Tools, Dies, Rolls, etc. for Automobiles, Engineering industries, Tools
and die manufacturing, Defence applications etc.
Grades
of Steels conforming to SAE/BS/IS/DIN/JIS and other international
standards in the form of Ingots, Cast Blooms, Rolled Rounds, RCS and Squares
can be supplied.
RMGL
is equipped with modern testing facilities employed right from steel making
stage and inspection facilities like Magnetic Particle Inspection, Eddy
Current Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, etc.
We
are also employing the latest technology for making seamless pipes/tubes
on vertical extrusion press of 2500 Ton capacity and 18 stand SRM. The
hot finished pipes so manufactured are then finished and dispatched or
can further be taken for cold pilgering of for various types of heat treatments.
The
advantages for seamless pipe making in addition to the advantages mentioned
for steel making are:

high diameter/thickness (D/T) ratio
- Improved
metallurgical properties as regards uniform logitudinal and transverse
strengths
Further,
in-house heat-treatment facilites like furnaces with thermostat controls,
which enable tubes to be suitable heat treated to meet customers requirements
of stress relieving, tempering, normalizing and annealing (spheroidize
annealing).
